‘DEAR ASABI’ by MOJOLAOLUWA

Here’s a poem for reads…

Dear Asabi, things have changed
People have moved on
Olu is deranged
Life goes on

Remember Toheed
Who wooed you back in school?
He is now married
And lives at Kerseypool

My Sola is now in junior high
Mama thinks she’s rather young
Olu often gets high
And beats me like a gong

Our town is beautiful
The roads are better
Security agents are dutiful
And we sleep without a meddler

Streetlights are working
Prices are reasonable
Elections are lurking
The weather is manageable

Tolu had a set of twins
So we all are now mothers
Grandpa’s health is dwindling
But I must go no further

Write me soon
And tell me about your new lover
Give my love to little Mosun
Give a thought to coming over

By the way, it was longlisted for the Babishai Niwe Poetry Award 2014.
